Baatighar started its journey on 17^th June 2005 to address the demand for original books in Chittagong City. Initially it was only a 100 square feet book store. Although it was tiny in size but it was able to attract the book lovers of the city. Gradually over the years Baatighar became the centre for readers, writers, publishers, cultural activists and the young generation. Eventually it became difficult to accommodate books and provide place for readers in that small place. With incredible support and love from readers Baatighar dreamt to be a state of art book store and cultural centre. After 7 long years of dedication, hardwork and patience Baatighar starts a new life in 29 September 2012 in beautiful premises in the ground floor of Chittagong Press Club.

Artist Shahinur Rahman designed the store outlet that looks and feels like a moving ship which reflects the culture and heritage of Chittagong.

There was fear and confusion in the beginning that such a huge and expensive book store may not survive long. But the book lovers did not let us down even for a day. Baatighar has successfully completed 12 years with unbelievable response, love and support from thousands of people who love books.

Publisher Corner - Baatighar always gives highest priority to the Bangladeshi publications. There are separate shelves for all prominent publication houses of Bangladesh such as Bangla Academy, Bishwa Shahittya Kendro, Bengal Foundation, University Press Limited, Shomoy Prakashon, Kothaprokash, Banglaprokash and many more. On top of that, Baatighar professionally does marketing for local publications to its large number of readers.

Selected Writers Corner - Baatighar has dedicated space and display for famous writers from Bangladesh, India and overseas. Readers can easily find the book they want from collection of books by Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam, Sharathchandra Mukhapaddhaya, Sunil Gangapaddhaya, Shirshendu Mukhapaddhaya, Humayun Ahmed, Muhammad Zafar Iqbal and others.

Children Corner - From the very beginning Baatighar tried to encourage young readers and kept rich collection of books for them. Children corner has books in Bangla and English from all around the world only for children.

IT Corner - To meet the twenty first century demand for IT books, journals, Baatighar has arranged space for IT related books.

Academic Books - Baatighar imports Law, Medicine and other academic original textbooks to meet the students need.

English Books Corner - To create and cater the demand for English Literature and other English books Baatighar has collection of books from world famous publishing houses.

Publication - Baatighar started the new journey as creative publication house from 2016. In future we plan to be professional and efficiant to publish books of different genre round the year.

Cafeteria - We want book lovers feel welcomed and comfortable inside the store. So, there is a small cafe to buy tea, coffee, drinks etc for the visitors to spend some quality time with books.

Cultural Centre - Baatighar is already a mingling place for the creative people of the city and a must visit for enlightened visitors from across the country and abroad. We plan to have regular events focusing mainly on books in coming years.
