Nasimun Wahed (Nini)

Nasimun Wahed (Nini) is a senior journalist of Bangladesh who earned a Masters of Journalism from Dhaka University. She earned the honor of being the first female journalist of Bangladesh to begin working the night shift, holding the post of joint news editor as well as being the first female journalist from Bangladesh to take part in the Common Wealth Press Union Fellowship. Along with these firsts, Nini received the distinction of taking part in the The Panos Institute London’s Environmental Journalism Fellowship along with a prestigious fellowship in East Germany on Women in Journalism and also attending many international journalism seminars, workshops and lectures around the world.

Since moving to New York in 1993, Nini has worked as a case manager and social worker at two nonprofit organizations. She also worked for four years as a journalist for a community based Bangla newspaper as well as the news presenter and reporter for a community based Bangla TV channel. Presently, she is the Program Supervisor at Selfhelp Senior Center. Nini is also an adjunct lecturer at LaGuardia Community College. She was the Convener of the International Bangla Festival and Book Fair in 2012 organized by the Muktadhara Foundation.
